One of the girls from Mexico sent me this message (first Spanish, then English):

"querido taylor:

Karla, gilda y yo empezamos nuestro viaje a la ciudad de mexico hace una semana. Ha sido un viaje muy dificil, primero no querian vendernos un burro por que somos mujeres, así que karla tuvo que disfrazarse de hombre para poderlo comprar.

Hace unos dias el burro de Gilda se enfermó así que hemos tenido que gastar nuestro ultimo dinero para comprar otro.

Te mantendremos informado.

Esperamos llegar a tiempo para cuando estes en la ciudad de méxico.

Lo bueno es que hablas español porque aqui nadie habla ingles. Por cierto!!! No olvides cambiar tus dolares en el aeropuerto, recuerda que la moneda que se usa en mexico es: TORTILLAS!! Es un dolar por diez tortillas, no dejes que te engañen.

Si alguien te ofrece matrimonio, NO LO ACEPTES, aunque te paguen 1500 tortillas.

Bueno... nos vemos en unos dias, NO TRAIGAS TU LAPTOP POR QUE EN MEXICO NO EXISTE EL INTERNET OBVIAMENTE ni tampoco hay electricidad, asi que no olvides comprar velas.

"Dear Taylor,

Karla, Gilda, and I began our trip to Mexico City a week ago. It has been a very difficult journey, first no one wanted to sell us donkeys because we are women, so Karla had to disguise herself as a man to be able to buy one.

A few days ago Gilda's donkey got sick and we had to spend the last of our money to buy her another.

We will keep you posted.

We hope to arrive by the time you are in Mexico City.

The good thing is that you speak Spanish because nobody speaks any English here. That's for sure!!! Don't forget to change your dollars in the airport, remember the currency used in Mexico is: TORTILLAS!!! It's one dollar for ten tortillas, don't let anyone fool you.

Good... we'll see each other in a few days, DON'T BRING YOUR LAPTOP BECAUSE THE INTERNET DOESN'T EXIST IN MEXICO, and, OBVIOUSLY, there isn't any electricity either, so don't forget to buy some candles.

First Week of Classes

Classes started last Monday and I have been very busy. Here's a sample of a weekly schedule: Basically, I have 6 classes: Finance, Accounting, Statistics, Organizational Behavior, Ethics, and Microeconomics. Given that INSEAD is a one year program attempting to cover 80% of the material of a two year MBA, they cram in a lot of class time. So far the material has been very easy as it is all entry level stuff that I already covered in undergrad. For example, I was an accounting and finance major so I have taken 9 accounting courses and 6 finance courses. At INSEAD I am taking introduction to finance and accounting. Similarly, last semester I took econometrics for which statistics is a pre-requisite. At INSEAD, I am back in statistics again.  The good news is that the teachers are very good and the classes are mostly case based with lots of discussion from students. Spanish Bull Fighting

Bonjour! (I´m practising French with Sandra in preparation for Palariac. This is as far as we´ve gotten) On Wednesday and Thursday this week I went to two different Spanish Bull Fighting events. They were so memorable that I thought I would describe them separate from the rest of the previous posting in full technicolor. DAY 1: 1) Enter the stadium. The dirt is cleanly raked and fans pay different prices for Sol (sun) and Sombra (shade). Enter the torero (bull fighter). This time they were on horse. Usually they are on foot.  2) This is the entrance from which the angry bull is released. 3) First, however, we must know how many the kilos the bull weighs. 420 kg is pretty light. The big bulls in big cities are always over 500 kg.  4) Enter the angry bull. And damn is he angry. He runs around like a... well... bull for the first minute. Ususally the toreros on foot will try to distract him to tire him out before goes for the horse.  5) Because that bull is really fast

The week after

The wedding was just the kick-off to a week of activities. We felt that since people were traveling so far for the wedding, we wanted to have more activities to make it worth the trip. I have traveled quite far for weddings and having just 1 night of fun feels inadequate given the distance you have traveled. It also was a great opportunity to have all of my family in one place and to show them a part of Spain that I have known for the last 7 years. Pool recovery day The day after the wedding, everyone woke up pretty late (around 11 am - 1 pm). We ended up having a nice walk around the village of La Alberca, drinking Radlers next the pool, and having a group dinner in La Abadia de los Templarios.
