the plane flight
dad peter and michael, you have a long day ahead of you, the flight to georgia isn't too bad, everyone has personal tv's and there is inflight trivia which is very entertaining! then, the georgia airport is pretty weird and can only be descirbed as a giant mall with planes, but we found a pretty good restaurant on E level about halfway down the walkway. anyywayy The flight to Buenos Aires is verrrryyyy long, but i thought it was really interesting... unlike flights to mexico that are completely full of tourists and English orientated, on this flight you feel like you are going to a new place. Our flight was about 60-40 for spanish speakers which came as a surprise to me, also you cannot identfy argentinians from tourists except hearing someone speak(of course we will standout anywat on behalf of our height).
Day 1: We rode a 45 minute bus into Buenos Aires, then from the bus stop took a taxi to taylors apartment, we arrived slightly earlier than taylor thought so breakfast was not quite ready, and i got sent to work on squezzing oranges, but then Taylor made crapes with dolce de leche(which is delicious) and we drank mate and de vamped. we arrived at 9 and by 12 we were our in town meeting taylors exchange friends and eating lunch, and our first argentian steak, with them. After lunch we walked around a sunday flea market sort of thing and eventually ended up in el centro next to argentinas equivalent of the White house(but this one is pink) and toured it for free seeing magnificant architecture, paintings, and a beautiful court yard with a fountain. After that we took the subte home and had dinner in.
Today at about 12 we decided to take a train along the countryside to get to San Andres. To get this train we first had to walk to the subte, go on a 15min subte ride, walk to another .65 peso train, then we got to our 12 peso train that would actually take us where we wanted to go(this train was very nice and touristy and was different from the one taylor took to school). On this ride you could get on and off along the way without paying for a ticket, so we stopped at 3 different little towns. At the first town, we ran into Taylors old basketball coach who worked at one of the tourist stores, after greetings, he led us into his shop, and even though we were humbily trying to deny him, he gave Taylor a hat from argentinas best soccer team, and mom and i mugs. In awe we left his store with our gifts and went to a beautiful park across the street which had stone paths and beutiful trees. After that we boarded the train and got off at the stop near Taylors school, after a short walk, we were at his school, had a nice tour, and then walked to a near by marina and ate lunch. (dad, all the water was red tide maroon and was very gross looking) After lunch we boarded the train again and went to the last stop which was also a marina town(and Taylor had never been there) and we walked along a boardwalk watching all the boats and taking pictures. After all that we were completely exhasted and walked back to a different cheaper train(the same one taylor has been riding home on from school) and came back into town. Tonight we ate billy brackenridge tenderloin and home made salsa.
After being here for two days a have seen how incredibal argentina is. this city really has a european feel and i keep remembering experiences from our trip to europe in 04. I am looking forward to seeing the country side, and we will be taking a salsa or tango class the week everyone is in town. See you all soon! i hope the snow treats you well, peter... go SKIINGG
